The experiences they had when they first collaborated in conjunction with the EXPO 2000 motivated ten renowned event caterers to conduct a round table meeting in March 2002.
They quickly realized that it would benefit everyone if they created an association of some sort for the industry. Ultimately, the LECA – Leading Event Caterer Association – was established in April 2002 under the roof of the FAMAB – Verband Direkte Wirtschaftskommunikation (Association for Direct Business Communications).
Initially, the group defined the term >event catering< and established its LECA quality criteria. Back then and until today, only companies that meet the quality requirements were/are permitted to join LECA. All LECA members are absolute professionals in the conception, planning and implementation of supra-regional event catering assignments calling for core competencies in disciplines food & beverage, logistics and human resources. Along with uncompromizing quality standards, the focus of LECA members is on excellent service. Service does not simply mean emphasizing their principals‘ role as perfect hosts. Service also extends to the rendering of support in the selecting of optimum catering professionals for their own events. Consequently, a checklist for catering inquiries was developed. It stipulates all central information required to obtain comparable concepts and thus, comparable quotations. Hence LECA promotes the attainment of its key objective – making quotations transparent. LECA also offers a helpful tool for everyone looking for an ideal venue. It is called the LECA location file. It contains recommendations of venues by LECA members, most of which are at their disposal exclusively. Whether you are planning a delightful gala dinner with 20 guests, a barbeque party for 300 customers or a gigantic event hosting up to 7,500 people – the file comprises recommendations for every event and every region. Quality and transparency are absolute priorities with all LECA members. Customer consulting is part of every-day business in the professional catering industry and one of the key attributes that distinguishes pros from the >party service around the corner<. Delicious food is just one aspect. Logistical capability, strict compliance with hygiene requirements, conceptional competency and perfect implementation are the other pieces of the puzzle. These are the fundamentals that will cause those attending to talk about the great hospitality they enjoyed at an event for a long time.
LECA members reap the benefits of having the opportunity to share experiences and network. LECA has always been and continues to be positioned on the market through press and public relations work.
One event that highlights that is the FAMAB organized German Event Day, which includes the ADAM and EVA award celebration. The culinary delights at the event have been the responsiblity of the LECA members since 2002. They handle everything from the basic concept to the implementation and service. The catering professionals interpret the annual theme with food and beverages, table decorations and even in the uniforms of their service staff. It gives them an opportunity to present the latest trends in event catering.
The fact that the LECA is part of the FAMAB e.V. gives LECA members access to a communications platform with each other, as well as with FAMAB, FME and FDA members. In the medium term, this will lead to a consolidation of the industry, to the clear differentiation of performance spectrums offered by the individual enterprises and to the creation of networks between three-dimensional communications experts. This development will yield a further optimization of the services offered by individual providers. For clients this means that they will be able to make selections of the individual building blocks they plan to use for their live marketing activities with greater confidence.
